TLDR Minoxidil dissolves best in shea butter, stearic acid, and rosemary oil, which may improve hair growth treatments.
This study explores the use of Hansen solubility parameter (HSP) predictions to determine the solubility of minoxidil in natural oils known for hair growth activity. The research employed a dual-tiered screening strategy combining HSP predictions with experimental validation. Results showed that minoxidil had the highest solubility in shea butter, stearic acid, and rosemary oil. Stearic acid and rosemary oil also had the lowest drug-lipid solubility parameter differences and Relative Energy Difference values, supporting the experimental findings. These results suggest that selecting natural oils based on HSP data can enhance minoxidil solubility, potentially improving drug loading and encapsulation efficiency in lipidic carriers, with implications for hair growth treatments and reduced formulation costs.
