TLDR Fermenting Dendrobium officinale with Lactobacillus reuteri CCFM8631 increases its skin care benefits.
The research investigated the use of ten microbial strains to ferment Dendrobium officinale, a plant rich in polysaccharides, to enhance its skin care properties. The study found that fermentation significantly increased polysaccharide yield and improved skin care activity. The polysaccharides, particularly those fermented by Lactobacillus reuteri CCFM8631, demonstrated excellent ability to reduce cell injury and decrease nitric oxide secretion. In vivo, these polysaccharides reduced skin damage, decreased epidermal thickness, and improved the expression of filaggrin, a protein crucial for skin barrier integrity. The study concluded that CCFM8631 is the most suitable strain for enhancing the skin care activity of Dendrobium officinale polysaccharides, showing potential for applications in the cosmetics industry.
