Microbial Analysis on Biotin Nutrition Bar with Different Packaging Materials

    September 2021 in “ Crop research/Crop Research
TLDR Aluminum foil packaging kept the biotin nutrition bar with the least bacteria after 30 days.
The study focused on the microbial stability of a biotin-rich nutrition bar, which is beneficial for skin, hair growth, and nails. Three samples with different compositions were initially created and evaluated for sensory qualities, with one being selected for further testing. This chosen sample was then packaged in three types of materials—aluminum foil, low-density polyethylene, and plastic bottles—and stored at room and refrigeration temperatures. Microbial analysis conducted after 15 and 30 days revealed that the sample packaged in aluminum foil had the lowest bacterial colony formation under both temperature conditions. The use of jaggery as a preservative and cardamom as a flavoring agent, both with anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, contributed to the sample remaining edible after 30 days.
