TLDR Tetrathelmis tetrathele extract may help prevent hair loss and improve scalp health.
The study explored the potential of Tetrathelmis tetrathele ethanolic extract (TTE) for preventing alopecia and improving scalp health. TTE demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting the production of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells without causing cytotoxicity. Additionally, TTE promoted the proliferation of human keratinocytes (HaCaT cells) and human hair follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPC), and it also inhibited the activity of 5α-reductase, an enzyme linked to hair loss. Based on these findings, the study suggests that T. tetrathele could be an effective therapeutic agent for alopecia prevention and scalp health improvement.
