TLDR Hair loss can be managed with medications, therapies, and lifestyle changes to prevent loss and encourage growth.
The medical management of hair loss, or alopecia, involves a combination of medications, therapies, and lifestyle changes to prevent further hair loss and promote hair growth. Key medications include FDA-approved minoxidil, a topical solution that stimulates hair follicles, and finasteride, an oral medication that inhibits the hormone DHT linked to hair loss. Additional treatments like low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy are also popular, with LLLT using laser light to stimulate follicles and PRP using growth factors from the patient's own plasma. A healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and stress management, supports hair health.
