TLDR The article suggests using "to heal from" for a more caring approach to treating women's hair loss and discusses the impact of doctors' beliefs on treatment.
In 2015, Rubinstein explored the management of androgenetic alopecia in women from a perspective of care and beliefs. The author used two clinical vignettes of patients with alopecia to: 1) describe the evidence supporting different approaches to female pattern hair loss and the complexity of accessing information from various medical perspectives; 2) propose the verb "to heal from" to represent the act of caring or being interested in patients' problems, as a superior alternative to the terms "manage" (due to its connotation of control or manipulation) or "provide medical care" (due to its connotation linked to health system management); 3) open a discussion about doctors' beliefs in relation to their actions, including those based on "scientific" medicine, which was dominant in the West at the time.
