TLDR Lupus Panniculitis can be an early sign of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory disease that often involves the skin, leading to its inclusion in the diagnostic criteria. Lupus Panniculitis (LP), a rare form of Chronic Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus (CCLE), affects 1-3% of patients and can occur alone or with SLE or Discoid Lupus Erythematosus. LP is characterized by a T-lymphocyte-mediated autoimmune response, with histopathological studies showing lobular or mixed panniculitis and a significant lymphocytic infiltrate at the dermis-epidermal junction.
