TLDR The LTF gene may help predict and manage nonspecific orbital inflammation.
The study identifies the LTF gene as a potential prognostic biomarker for nonspecific orbital inflammation (NSOI) using integrated machine learning and Mendelian randomization approaches. By analyzing transcriptomic datasets, the researchers found significant differentially expressed genes and immune cell types associated with NSOI. The LTF gene showed significant upregulation in NSOI samples, with a high predictive accuracy (AUC of 0.685). The study suggests that LTF's anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties could be pivotal in NSOI pathophysiology, offering insights for future therapeutic strategies. However, further experimental validation and clinical trials are needed to explore LTF's potential in treatment strategies.
