TLDR Lower Gas6 and sAxl levels are linked to hair loss in COVID-19 survivors.
In a study involving 263 COVID-19 survivors, researchers found that decreased plasma levels of Growth Arrest-Specific 6 (Gas6) and its soluble receptor Axl (sAxl) were associated with hair loss. Of the participants, 69 (26.2%) experienced hair loss, with Gas6 and sAxl levels, along with female sex, being independent predictors. Although most cases resolved spontaneously, 23.7% of subjects reported persistent hair loss one year post-discharge. The study highlights the potential role of Gas6 and sAxl in post-COVID-19 hair loss.
