Raw Data from JAAD Research Letter: Androgenetic Alopecia Present in the Majority of Patients Hospitalized with COVID-19: The 'Gabrin Sign'

The study conducted in three Madrid hospitals from March 23 to April 12, 2020, found that a majority of patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 exhibited signs of androgenetic alopecia, a condition characterized by hair loss. Dermatologists assessed the severity of alopecia using the Hamilton–Norwood scale for males and the Ludwig scale for females. This observation, referred to as the "Gabrin sign," suggested a potential link between androgenetic alopecia and vulnerability to severe COVID-19, highlighting the need for further research into the role of androgens in COVID-19 susceptibility.
