TLDR Alopecia areata in children is more common in boys, mainly affects the scalp, and is linked to genetics and psoriasis.
The study evaluated the clinical features of pediatric alopecia areata (AA) in Faisalabad, involving 50 patients. The mean age at onset was 4.3 years for girls and 7.1 years for boys, with a male to female ratio of 1.17:1, indicating higher prevalence among boys. The scalp was the most affected area in 98% of cases. A significant portion of patients had a family history of psoriasis, and atopic disorders were commonly associated with AA. The study concluded that AA in children showed male predominance, mild scalp manifestations, and a genetic link to psoriasis, recommending further research with larger sample sizes.
