TLDR Both treatments reduced androgen levels and hair growth in women with hirsutism.
The study investigated the effects of long-term treatment with cyproterone acetate (CA) alone or combined with ethinyl oestradiol (EE) on androgen levels in 35 hirsute women. Both treatments normalized androstenedione (A) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels within eight months, while testosterone (T) levels only showed a tendency to decrease with the CA + EE combination but normalized with CA alone. The binding capacity of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) increased in both treatments, more significantly with CA + EE. Hair growth reduction began after approximately six months of treatment in both groups, with no clinical differences in the rate of regression between the two regimens.
