TLDR Neuronatin is found in various cells of rat tissues and has a unique location in sperm cells.
The study from October 19, 2018, investigated the expression and intracellular localization of Neuronatin (NNAT) in embryonic and postnatal rat tissues such as the pancreas, tongue, whisker hair follicle, and testis. The research found that NNAT was present in both undifferentiated and differentiated cells in these tissues. In the whisker hair follicles, NNAT was found in the inner root sheath. The study also discovered a new intracellular location for NNAT in the acrosomes in spermatozoa. The findings suggested that NNAT localization in the endoplasmic reticulum and its interaction with sarco/ER Ca2+-ATPase isoform 2 (SERCA2) were cell or tissue-specific properties.
