TLDR LiPADI is a useful tool for monitoring the severity and treatment of lichen planus.
The study developed the Lichen Planus Activity and Damage Index (LiPADI) to assess the severity of lichen planus (LP) across various forms, including skin, mucosal, nail lesions, and hair loss/scarring alopecia, involving 44 patients with biopsy-confirmed LP. LiPADI effectively reflected the clinical condition of LP patients, showing strong interrater reliability and internal consistency, and correlated significantly with physician-assessed global disease severity. It differentiated between various LP severity levels, suggesting its utility in monitoring disease progression and treatment effectiveness. Despite limitations like a small sample size, LiPADI demonstrated good validity and reliability, with activity scores correlating with disease severity, quality of life, and pruritus severity, while damage scores correlated with disease duration. The study concluded that LiPADI is an effective system for assessing LP severity and is hoped to be adopted in future research and clinical practice.
