TLDR A child with a rare scalp condition regrew hair after treatment.
A 7-year-old child from north-east India presented with localized linear non-scarring alopecia on the scalp, diagnosed as lupus panniculitis. Examination revealed a single linear alopecic patch, and a skin biopsy showed characteristic inflammatory infiltrates. Despite negative ANA and anti-ds DNA tests, the patient responded well to a combination of hydroxychloroquine, topical and intralesional steroids, and topical calcineurin inhibitor, with hair regrowth observed within 3 weeks. The case highlighted the importance of considering linear lupus panniculitis in patterned alopecia and the need for regular follow-up due to potential recurrence and systemic lupus erythematosus development.
