TLDR Excimer laser therapy can be an alternative for treating superficial morphea when topical steroids don't work.
The document discussed morphea, an uncommon autoimmune disease, and its treatment options. It highlighted that morphea differs from systemic sclerosis and affects both children and adults, with different forms prevalent in each group. The disease progresses from an inflammatory phase to a sclerotic or atrophic stage. Treatment is most effective during the inflammatory phase, with high potency steroids and phototherapy showing the best results. For localized superficial morphea, excimer laser therapy using ultraviolet type B light was suggested as an alternative when topical steroids are ineffective, as phototherapy can reduce inflammation and potentially modulate the immune response.
