TLDR Shampoo with heat-killed Lacticaseibacillus paracasei GMNL-653 improves scalp health and hair growth by changing scalp bacteria.
The study investigated the effects of heat-killed Lacticaseibacillus paracasei GMNL-653 on human scalp health by regulating the scalp microbiome. In vitro experiments showed that GMNL-653 co-aggregated with Malassezia furfur and inhibited its biofilm formation. A clinical trial with 22 participants using GMNL-653-containing shampoo for 5 months showed reduced dandruff and oil secretion, and increased hair growth. Changes in scalp microbiota included increased M. globosa and decreased M. restricta and Cutibacterium acnes. The study suggests that GMNL-653 improves scalp health by modulating the scalp microbiome.
