TLDR Kv1.3 blockers may help treat alopecia areata and promote hair regrowth.
The study investigated the use of Kv1.3 channel blockers as a treatment for alopecia areata (AA), an autoimmune condition. Researchers identified an increased presence of Kv1.3+ T cells in AA lesions, indicating their involvement in the disease. In a humanized mouse model, the selective Kv1.3 blocker PAP-1 was shown to reduce AA symptoms and promote hair regrowth. The study included 10 patients and 30 grafts in SCID mice, yielding promising results for Kv1.3 blockers as a targeted therapy for AA, although further research with larger cohorts was necessary.
