TLDR Many women in Recife lack understanding of the climacteric period, needing better education and care.
This study focused on the knowledge of climacteric symptoms among 100 women aged 40 to 65 in Recife, Brazil. It found that more than half of the participants lacked understanding of the climacteric period, with only 37% providing accurate definitions. Although 98% claimed to know what menopause is, 17% confused it with other climacteric events. Public health services were identified as insufficient in educating women about climacteric, with community health care agents being the primary source of information in 70% of cases. The study highlighted the need for a comprehensive interdisciplinary care model to improve the quality of life for women during this period, especially as socioeconomically disadvantaged and less educated women were underrepresented in the sample.
