TLDR The pandemic worsened mental health and healthcare access for middle-aged women, leading to negative changes in their lifestyle.
The study "Impact of the new corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic on climacteric women’s health: websurvey" investigated the changes in health and healthcare of 419 climacteric women aged between 40 and 70 years in Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that 60% of participants reported weight gain, 50.8% reported a decrease in physical activity, and over 80% reported worsening mental health. Additionally, 66.1% had a change in their sleep pattern and more than half reported difficulty accessing gynecological consultations. Increased alcohol and food consumption were also reported, particularly among women living in capital cities and those whose family incomes changed during the pandemic. The study concluded that the pandemic led to a significant reduction in healthcare and a deterioration in mental health among climacteric women, with changes in life habits that may have long-term repercussions.
