TLDR Low-dose oral minoxidil often improves hair loss, and early treatment of traction alopecia is effective but harder if delayed.
Low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) is increasingly being used as a treatment for alopecia, with a systematic review showing objective clinical improvement in 61% to 100% of patients with androgenetic alopecia and in 18% to 82.4% of patients with alopecia areata. Traction alopecia can usually be managed successfully if diagnosed early and traction is discontinued, but treatment can be challenging if diagnosis and treatment are delayed.
