TLDR Isotretinoin delays bone development in young rats.
The study investigated the effects of isotretinoin on endochondral ossification in young male Wistar rats, using a sample of 20 rats divided into a control group and an experimental group receiving 8 mg/kg/day of isotretinoin. Histological analysis revealed that isotretinoin led to a reduction in cell population in the cell channel and bone epiphysis, as well as poorly defined and reduced thickening of the periosteum and osteogenesis areas. These findings supported previous reports of bone malformations associated with isotretinoin, indicating a delay in ossification in the treated group.
