TLDR Children with Parry Romberg Syndrome had successful facial fat-grafting surgeries after disease stabilization with no complications.
The document reports on a case series involving ten children with Parry Romberg Syndrome (PRS), a rare disorder causing hemifacial atrophy, who underwent facial fat-grafting after their condition stabilized following immunosuppressant therapy. The patients, five males and five females aged between 3 to 11 years at symptom onset, all completed a single course of treatment with methotrexate and/or pulsed methylprednisolone without relapse. After an average of 3.5 years to disease stabilization, they were referred for surgery, with the time to lipofilling ranging from one to twelve months. On average, patients underwent 1.3 autologous fat grafting procedures, which resulted in very favorable outcomes without any complications or relapses. This study, one of the largest pediatric series on the surgical management of PRS, demonstrates the procedure's safety and efficacy, emphasizing the importance of multidisciplinary management and increased awareness among various specialties.
