    The study from 2015 compared the effects of inositol (specifically a combination of myoinositol and D-chiroinositol) and metformin on 128 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The patients were divided into two groups: Group A with 62 patients receiving inositol and Group B with 66 patients receiving metformin for a duration of 3 months, followed by a 3-month post-treatment period. The results indicated that the inositol group had significantly higher rates of spontaneous menstruation (46.7%) and spontaneous pregnancy (11.2%) compared to the metformin group (13.6% and 3.0%, respectively), as well as significant weight loss and increased progesterone levels. Both treatments showed no significant difference in reducing anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels and insulin resistance as measured by HOMA-IR. The study concluded that inositol was more effective than metformin in improving certain clinical outcomes for PCOS patients, although both treatments were similar in their effects on AMH and HOMA-IR levels.
