TLDR The hydrogel promotes faster healing of infected wounds by enhancing tissue regeneration and preventing infection.
The study developed injectable polypeptide-protein hydrogels with vascularization and antibacterial properties for promoting infected wound healing. These hydrogels were constructed using bovine serum albumin and silver ions (Ag+) as crosslinkers, which provided a sterile environment and strong antibacterial capabilities. The hydrogels also incorporated the K2(SL)6K2 (KK) polypeptide, enhancing vascularization. In vivo results demonstrated significant collagen deposition and vascularization in the early stages of wound healing, leading to rapid tissue regeneration and the formation of new hair follicles. This multifunctional hydrogel showed promise for applications in biomedical fields, particularly in healing infected wounds.
