TLDR Premature canities is linked to low vitamin D and B12, family history, and higher MHR.
This study investigated the relationship between premature canities (PC), inflammatory markers, and micronutrient deficiencies in 100 participants aged ≤ 25 years, including 50 patients with PC and 50 matched controls. The findings revealed that patients with PC had significantly lower serum levels of vitamin D and vitamin B12 compared to controls, and a higher prevalence of family history, suggesting a genetic or epigenetic component. Additionally, the monocyte-to-HDL cholesterol ratio (MHR) was significantly elevated in patients with PC. However, no significant associations were found between micronutrient deficiencies and inflammatory markers. The study's limitations include its single-centre design, small sample size, and cross-sectional nature, which restrict the generalizability and ability to establish causality.
