TLDR Silver nanoparticles in gel form can effectively heal wounds.
The study developed a topical gel containing biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Saccharomyces boulardii and tested its wound healing efficacy on Sprague-Dawley rats with burn wounds. The AgNPs were in the size range of 3-10 nm and the gel was found to be stable with good rheological properties and spreadability. The results showed that the AgNPs-based gel significantly enhanced wound healing compared to marketed formulations and silver ions, as evidenced by visual observation, reduced transepidermal water loss, and improved histological skin analysis. The study concluded that the biologically synthesized AgNPs-based gel has potential as an effective topical treatment for wound healing.
