A user experienced a dry, scaly scalp two weeks after microneedling with a dermapen at 1mm and applying Rogaine foam. They tried moisturizers and coconut oil without success and are seeking advice.

The user has been using finasteride for 1.5 years and minoxidil for almost 3 years for hair loss, and has seen some maintenance of hair but not significant regrowth. Suggestions from others include switching to dutasteride, trying oral minoxidil, and considering microneedling or hair fibers for better appearance.

A 32-year-old is seeing new hair growth after two months of using minoxidil foam twice daily, finasteride every other day, and weekly microneedling. They previously had a hair transplant but did not use medication afterward, which they now regret.

Optimal microneedling routine is 1.25mm once a week with Dr Pen 36 needles. Applying Minoxidil right after microneedling may increase systemic absorption risk.

Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.
