In Vitro Evaluation of Nerium Oleander Leaf Extract Against Sarcoptes Scabiei Var. Cuniculi Mite Isolated from Naturally Infested Rabbits

The study assessed the acaricidal efficacy of Nerium oleander leaf extract against Sarcoptes scabiei var. cuniculi mites from naturally infested rabbits using an in vitro dipping method. The extract demonstrated high mortality rates of 100%, 78%, and 49% at concentrations of 400, 200, and 100 µg/ml respectively, after 8 hours, comparable to the standard acaricide, ivermectin, which had a 91% mortality rate. The findings suggest that Nerium oleander contains effective compounds for treating scabies, though further research is needed to identify the active chemicals and their mechanisms.
