TLDR The hydrogel made of chitosan, HPMC, and insulin speeds up wound healing and could be a new dressing, especially for diabetics.
The study evaluated a hydrogel made of chitosan, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), and insulin (Chi/HPMC/Ins) for wound healing. In vitro tests on human keratinocytes showed the hydrogel was non-toxic and promoted cell proliferation and migration. In vivo tests on diabetic mice with full-thickness wounds showed the hydrogel led to faster wound closure, more organized granulation tissue, and hair follicle regeneration. The hydrogel increased cell viability by 31.9% after 24 hours, 76% after 48 hours, and 112% after 72 hours compared to the control group. The study concluded that the Chi/HPMC/Ins hydrogel could be a potential new dressing for wound healing, particularly in diabetic conditions.
