TLDR Hair loss significantly lowers life quality, especially in young men, with most patients unhappy with treatment effectiveness.
A cross-sectional study of 402 males in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia found that androgenic alopecia (AGA) significantly impairs quality of life (QoL), especially in younger males (20-29 years old) who were recently diagnosed. The symptoms domain of the Skindex-29 QoL assessment had the highest mean score (25.6), indicating it had the greatest impact on patients. Of the 123 patients who underwent treatment, only 24 (19.5%) reported satisfaction, with 81 (81.8%) citing less effectiveness as the reason for dissatisfaction. The study suggests further research on AGA treatment efficiency is needed.
