TLDR Trichohyalin and peptidylarginine deiminase type III are found together in rat hair follicles, with trichohyalin being modified after expression.
The study investigated the immunocytochemical localization of peptidylarginine deiminase type III, trichohyalin, and deiminated trichohyalin in the hair follicles of infant rat dorsal skin. Peptidylarginine deiminase type III was found in the Huxley's and Henle's layers of the inner root sheath, the cuticle layer, and medulla cells. Trichohyalin showed a similar localization but was absent in the cuticle layer. Deiminated trichohyalin was identified in the inner root sheath and medulla. The findings suggested that trichohyalin and peptidylarginine deiminase type III were expressed together, with deimination of trichohyalin occurring post-expression during hair follicle development.
