TLDR The method accurately detects illegal minoxidil in herbal hair products.
The study aimed to establish a method for detecting illegally added minoxidil in herbal hair growth cosmetics using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The method utilized a Shimadzu Shim-pack VP-ODS column with a methanol-water mobile phase, achieving a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and a detection wavelength of 231 nm at a column temperature of 35 ℃. The linear range for minoxidil detection was 0.201-50.360 μg/mL with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.9999. The method demonstrated average recoveries of 101.7%, 96.9%, and 96.6% with relative standard deviations (RSD) of 2.5%, 1.3%, and 1.3% respectively, indicating that the method was accurate, reliable, and sensitive.
