TLDR Basal serum cortisol levels don't help diagnose adrenal issues in vitiligo patients.
The study aimed to evaluate the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in vitiligo patients by measuring basal serum cortisol levels. It included 27 patients (11 men, 16 women) diagnosed with vitiligo. The analysis found no significant relationship between basal serum cortisol levels and the form or duration of vitiligo involvement. The findings suggested that basal serum cortisol levels were inadequate for diagnosing subclinical adrenal insufficiency in vitiligo patients, indicating the need for further tests. This study was one of the few that examined the HPA axis in vitiligo patients.
