March 2024

TLDR Cattle with dermatophytosis in Diyala show severe skin damage and abnormalities.
The study investigates the histopathological changes in cattle affected by dermatophytosis, specifically caused by T. verrucosum, in Diyala Governorate. A total of 100 samples were collected from cows aged between 6 months and 4 years. The findings revealed several skin abnormalities, including irregular keratin without keratinocytes, a layer of dead neutrophils, hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, necrotic hair follicles, and damaged keratin due to hyphae. Additionally, nodular keratin, vacuolation, apoptotic bodies, and neutrophils with septated hyphae were observed. The study also noted severe aggregation of neutrophils, hemorrhage, and necrotic areas in the epidermis layer, indicating significant pathological changes associated with the infection.
