TLDR 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors significantly affect the penile tissue of hypertensive rats.
The study evaluated the effects of 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors on the penile histomorphometry of hypertensive rats. Sixty male rats were divided into six groups, including normotensive and hypertensive strains, with some groups receiving dutasteride or finasteride treatments. After 40 days of treatment, the rats were euthanized, and their penises were analyzed for changes in cross-sectional area and tissue composition. The results, analyzed using one-way ANOVA with Bonferroni's post-test, indicated that the treatments had significant effects on the penile histomorphometry of hypertensive rats.
