TLDR Dogs with dermatitis show significant skin changes and higher white blood cell counts.
The study examined the histological skin features and total leukocyte profiles of dogs with dermatitis compared to those without. Using 24 samples from the abdominal skin and blood of affected and unaffected dogs, the research found that dogs with dermatitis exhibited clinical symptoms such as itching, redness, and hair loss. Histological analysis revealed hyperkeratosis, necrosis, inflammatory cell infiltration, and other skin changes. Additionally, there was a 59% increase in total leukocytes in dogs with dermatitis compared to 50% in non-affected dogs. The study concludes that dermatitis in dogs leads to significant histological changes and increased leukocyte counts, recommending future research to categorize dermatitis types and differential leukocyte changes.

Hair follicles can be dormant and potentially revived with treatments like finasteride and minoxidil, but irreversible loss occurs if certain structures are destroyed. Early intervention is more effective, and additional methods like microneedling may help.
