TLDR High androgen levels can cause hirsutism and increase inflammation.
Hirsutism, affecting about 7% of reproductive-age women, is primarily caused by excess androgen hormones, which can also lead to increased serum TNFα levels, indicating an inflammatory response. The condition results from the interaction between elevated androgen levels and the sensitivity of hair follicles to these hormones. The study reviewed various articles, case-control studies, and reviews to establish the correlation between hirsutism, androgen hormone levels, and serum TNFα, highlighting that high androgen concentrations can trigger hirsutism through inflammatory pathways.
