TLDR Wet cupping may improve hair health in androgenetic alopecia without side effects.
This case study investigates the effectiveness of hijāmah bil shart (wet cupping) in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in a 34-year-old male. Over four sessions in 45 days, the patient showed significant improvements in hair texture, reduced shedding, and overall scalp health without adverse effects. The study proposes that hijāmah bil shart could be a safe, cost-effective alternative to conventional treatments like minoxidil and finasteride, which often have side effects. The Unani perspective credits these benefits to the removal of morbid humors and improved circulation, while biomedical insights point to enhanced microcirculation and reduced inflammation. The study recommends larger trials to confirm these results and develop standardized protocols.
