TLDR The Swedish Hairdex-S is a reliable tool for assessing quality of life in Alopecia Areata patients.
The study translated and validated the Hairdex Quality of Life Instrument into Swedish (Hairdex-S) for 100 patients with alopecia areata, showing excellent psychometric properties with a test-retest correlation of 0.91 and internal consistency of α = 0.92. It was well-received, with 96% of participants finding it relevant and easy to complete. The study found that alopecia areata negatively impacted quality of life, especially in self-confidence and emotions, with younger patients reporting lower QoL. The Hairdex-S was recommended for evaluating QoL in AA patients and for research purposes, highlighting its utility in clinical settings to understand the psychosocial burden of hair loss.
