TLDR Rosemary oil may promote hair growth and is a natural alternative to minoxidil.
Rosemary oil, derived from Rosmarinus officinalis, has been recognized for its potential in promoting hair growth due to its bioactive compounds like ursolic acid and rosmarinic acid. These compounds exhibit antioxidant properties that may improve cellular health in hair follicles. The oil is compared to minoxidil, a synthetic compound that stimulates hair growth by enhancing blood flow to hair follicles. While both have shown efficacy in some studies, minoxidil is often the standard topical treatment for hair loss due to its pharmaceutical nature. Rosemary oil, however, is seen as a botanical alternative, appealing to those seeking natural remedies. Comprehensive clinical trials comparing the long-term effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of these treatments are still limited.
