The Study of Hair Transplantation Curing Alopecia

    Xueqing Wu
TLDR Hair transplantation is a safe and effective treatment for hair loss with long-lasting results.
The study conducted between February 2000 and July 2005 involved 638 cases of alopecia, including 522 cases of androgenetic alopecia and 116 cases of cicatricial alopecia, treated with auto-hair grafting. The results showed high survival rates for grafted hair: 96.83% in male pattern baldness, 95.73% in female pattern baldness, and 90.52% in cicatricial alopecia. Follow-up periods ranging from 6 to 68 months indicated that the transplanted hair grew well without further hair loss. The satisfaction rates were high, with 95.14% of doctors and 97.49% of patients expressing satisfaction. The study concluded that hair transplantation was a safe, reliable, and effective method for treating both androgenetic and cicatricial alopecia, with long-lasting results.

community Losing Hair on Dutasteride? You might have LPP

      in Research/Science  97 upvotes 11 months ago
Men with hair loss might have lichen planopilaris (LPP), which can mimic androgenetic alopecia, leading to misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment with finasteride or dutasteride. Proper diagnosis, including biopsies, is crucial to distinguish between androgenetic alopecia and conditions like LPP.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Hair loss itch is caused by DHT attacking follicles and stimulating nerves. Finasteride users who respond well don't experience this itch.

Scalp tension from the occipitalis muscle is theorized to contribute to hair loss, but most believe DHT and genetics are the main causes. Treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are considered more effective than addressing scalp tension.
