TLDR Hair tonic with equal parts Moringa and rambutan leaf extracts grew rabbit hair longer and heavier than the control product.
The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a hair tonic formulated with Moringa oleifera Lamk (kelor) and Nephelium lappaceaum L. (rambutan) leaf extracts on rabbit hair growth. Three different formulations with varying ratios of kelor to rambutan leaf extracts (1:3, 1:1, and 3:1) were prepared and compared to a 2% Minoxidil hair tonic as a positive control. Physical tests including organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, and viscosity were conducted on the tonics. Hair growth was measured on three rabbits over 28 days. The results showed that the 1:1 ratio of kelor to rambutan leaf extract was the most effective, with an average hair length of 3 cm and weight of 0.236 g, compared to the positive control which had an average hair length of 2.025 cm and weight of 0.207 g. Statistical analysis using ANOVA indicated no significant difference between the extract and the positive control (P < 0.05).
