TLDR The complex oriental medicine extract was as effective as minoxidil for hair regrowth in mice without adverse effects.
In a study from 2007, the hair growth-promoting effects of a complex oriental medicine extract were evaluated on a C57BL/6 mouse model with alopecia. The study involved 6-week-old male mice, which were divided into four groups: a normal group treated with saline, a vehicle control group treated with ethanol, jojoba oil, and water, a positive control group treated with 3% minoxidil, and an experimental group treated with the complex oriental medicine extract mixed in the vehicle. After 3 weeks of topical application, the hair regrowth effect observed in the experimental group was similar to that of the positive control group, with an average of approximately 40% regrowth. Additionally, there were no significant differences in body weight gain or hematological values between the experimental and normal groups, suggesting that the complex oriental medicine extract could be practically used for hair growth or the prevention of hair loss.
