Hair Growth Promoting Effect and Action Mechanism of Chrysanthemum Zawadskii Extract
January 2014
TLDR Chrysanthemum zawadskii extract may help treat hair loss by promoting hair growth and affecting growth factors.
In 2014, a study demonstrated that Chrysanthemum zawadskii (CZ) extract and its components, jaceosidin and eupatilin, have hair growth-promoting effects. The extract was applied to C57BL/6 mice and human hair follicles in culture, leading to an earlier transition from telogen to anagen phase in mice and promoting hair growth. In human hair follicles, CZ extract prolonged the anagen phase, reduced apoptosis, and increased cell proliferation in the bulb region. The treatment also upregulated the expression of VEGF and IGF-1, which are hair growth-promoting factors, and downregulated TGF-ß1, a hair growth inhibitory factor. The study concluded that CZ extract and its components could potentially treat hair loss conditions by regulating growth factors and promoting dermal papilla cell proliferation.
