Hair Growth Activity Test of White Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Roscoe) Extract and Red Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Rubra) Extract
TLDR Red ginger extract promotes hair growth better than white ginger extract.
The study aimed to evaluate the hair growth activity of white ginger and red ginger extracts using male Sprague Dawley rats. The extracts were formulated into a gel and compared to 2% minoxidil. Results showed that white ginger extract gel at 3% concentration had similar initial hair growth activity to minoxidil but was less effective in the final growth phase. In contrast, red ginger extract gel demonstrated stronger hair growth activity than minoxidil, with 1% and 2% concentrations showing comparable results in initial and final growth phases, respectively. Overall, red ginger extract was more effective than white ginger extract in promoting hair growth.
