TLDR Glycyrrhiza glabra root extract promotes faster and longer hair growth in female rats.
The study investigated the hair growth-promoting effects of Glycyrrhiza glabra root extract on female Wistar rats. The rats were divided into three groups, each receiving either paraffin oil (control), 2% minoxidil solution, or 2% petroleum ether root extract of G. glabra. Over 30 days, the extract-treated group exhibited longer hair and faster hair growth initiation (5-13 days) compared to the minoxidil (6-19 days) and control groups. Additionally, 76% of hair follicles in the extract-treated group were in the anagenic stage, surpassing the minoxidil (66%) and control (45%) groups. The findings suggested that G. glabra root extract could be a potential hair growth-promoting agent for females.
