TLDR Hair greying is common in Lagos, starting around age 30, more in males than females.
The study conducted in Lagos, Nigeria, involved 307 adult traders and aimed to document the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of hair greying. The prevalence of hair greying was found to be 47.6%, with a higher occurrence in males (51%) compared to females (45.9%). The median age of participants with grey hair was 52 years. Hair greying was observed in 14.8% of individuals aged 30-34 years and 97.2% of those aged 60 and above. Premature greying was relatively uncommon, with a prevalence of 17.7%. The study concluded that hair greying is common in the population, with the onset typically around 30 years, and highlighted the need for more epidemiological studies on premature hair greying.
