TLDR Hair greying is common in Lagos, starting around age 30, more in males than females.
The study conducted in February 2020 in an urban market in Lagos, Nigeria, involved 307 adult traders and aimed to document the characteristics and factors associated with hair greying. The findings revealed that 47.6% of participants experienced hair greying, with a higher prevalence in males (51%) compared to females (45.9%). The average age of participants was 42.7 years, and the onset of hair greying typically began at age 30. Premature greying was relatively uncommon, occurring in 17.7% of participants, while 19.9% reported greying before their peers. The study highlighted the need for further epidemiological research on hair greying, particularly premature greying, in Nigeria.
