TLDR Cholesterol affects hair growth, but more research is needed to understand how.
This review discussed the critical role of lipids, particularly cholesterol, in hair follicle biology and its influence on hair growth. It highlighted that altered cholesterol homeostasis was involved in primary cicatricial alopecia, congenital hypertrichosis, and androgenic alopecia. However, the molecular mechanisms by which cholesterol affects hair follicle cell proliferation and differentiation were not well understood. The review suggested that further research into cholesterol's role could lead to new treatments for hair growth disorders.
