TLDR Enobosarm significantly increased muscle mass and improved physical function in elderly men and postmenopausal women without serious side effects.
The study evaluated the effects of GTx-024 (enobosarm), a selective androgen receptor modulator, on lean body mass and physical function in 120 healthy elderly men and postmenopausal women over 12 weeks. Results showed that GTx-024 significantly increased lean body mass and improved physical function in a dose-dependent manner, with the 3 mg dose showing the most significant effects. Additionally, improvements in insulin resistance and reductions in total cholesterol and HDL were observed. The treatment was well tolerated, with adverse events similar between the GTx-024 and placebo groups. The findings suggested that GTx-024 could be beneficial in preventing or treating muscle wasting associated with chronic diseases.
